Richfield’s American Legion Post 435 was born scrappy in 1927, when fifteen WWI vets met in the old town hall and decided to build more than just memories. They got their charter, survived a few name changes, and by the 1940s had taken over a local dance joint on Nicollet Avenue—because these guys didn’t do dull.
Then came the 1950s, and with it, their crown jewel: a gleaming new brick post home on Portland Avenue. Modern, proud, and built with their own sweat and grit, it became the community hub—hosting weddings, fish fries, Friday-night dances, and the kind of bar banter that could go all night. Veterans, families, and locals alike packed the place for nearly every celebration that mattered.
