Keewaydin Hotel

Formerly the Club House and the Cottagewood Hotel, a guy named Henry Schomberg bought the place and renamed it the Keewaydin Hotel around 1903. The name supposedly refers to a northwesterly wind in the language of the Dakotah. This handsome hostel was four stories high boasting 40 well appointed rooms and a spacious dining hall.

Rates were $2.50 for one guest or $4.50 for 2. Some rooms had a bathrooms starting at $3.00 per night. The hotel and a lovely dock that served as a convenient stop for Lake Minnetonka’s famous streetcar boats. The Keewaydin Hotel burned to the ground in 1924, but the buildings old water tower lingered for many years afterward.
