Home of the Twins

This new stadium, built in 1956, is located near the intersection of the new hi-way and Cedar Avenue  in Bloomington, Minnesota, a suburb of Minneapolis. Covering a total of 161 acres, with a parking area for 15,000 cars. Home of the Minnesota Twins of the American Baseball League.

The Metropolitan Stadium is located at 78th Street and Cedar Avenue and is considered to be one of the finest parks in the country. There is plenty of parking space nearby to accommodate many thousands of people who go to see baseball and other activities that demand large crowds. The Minneapolis Millers ball club played its first game here against Wichita on April 21, 1956.

In October 1960, Calvin Griffith moved the Washington Senators to Metropolitan Stadium. They played their first home game as the Minnesota Twins on April 21, 1961. To get the ball park ready for the Twins, a $9 million renovation enlarged seating capacity from 22,000 to over 30,000 before the end of the Twins’ inaugural season. The Twinkies outdrew the average American League team every year of their first decade at the Met.

Here is the home of the Minnesota Twins originally built in 1956 – with a present seating capacity of 45,182. In July of 1965 the ALL STAR game was played in this Stadium to an overflow crowd.
