Pike’s Plaque

Fort Snelling, the U. S. Government Reservation of 2,300 acres, was the first fort of the Northwest. The plaque reads: To Honor the Memory of Zebulon Montgomery Pike, 1st Lt., U. S. A., who on Sept. 23rd, 1805, acquired for the government by Treaty with the Sioux Nation the site of Fort Snelling. This tablet is placed by the Society of Colonial Dames of America in the State of Minnesota, 1909.
