Grain Belt Park

In the Summer of 1963, the Grain Belt Breweries, Inc. dedicated a ten-acre park in front of the brewery’s old wagon shed, near the corner of Broadway and Marshall streets. Pictured are the Gasthaus and fountain in one corner of the block long yard. Water came from the famous Diamond Wells, 1407 feet deep. This beautiful centerpiece spouted exclusive brewing water 18 feet into the air. The park was landscaped with a variety of flower gardens, trees, a Black Forest-style hostelry and tame deer. A few years after the park was built, the fountain began to appear on Grain Belt signage and labels with the slogan “From Perfect Brewing Water.”
