The MacPhail Music School Building Then and Now

When the new building now under construction for the MacPhail School of Music is completed, Minneapolis will have one of the largest buildings in America devoted exclusively to the art of music and drama. Located on the northwestern corner of LaSalle Avenue in Twelfth Street, it will be of fireproof construction containing seventy-four soundproof studios classrooms, rehearsal halls for orchestras, band and chorus and an auditorium for school recitals.

The outside of the building will be Bedford cut stone and granite up to the third floor and above cream colored base brick and terra-cotta will be used. Special care is being taken in dividing the studios to ensure soundproof partitions. They will consist of two distinct walls separated with insolite and air spaces without contact through their partitions. It is expected the building will be ready for occupancy by July 15th 1923 the cornerstone will be laid in early April.
