The Merchants Bank Building

Merchants Bank Building (The New). — This excellent modern bank building is located on the northwest corner of 4th and Robert streets, covering 100 feet on Robert street by 155 feet on 4th street. The total expenditures on this structure, which has been arranged especially for attorneys and commercial pur poses, are in the neighborhood of $1,500,000.

The building is sixteen stories in height. The ground floor is arranged for stores or offices. The front on the first floor is polished granite and large plate glass windows. Above this floor, the build ing is of terracotta and glazed brick. The entire exterior is of glazed and polished nonabsorbent material which will retain its new look indefinitely, and will not grow dingy. The building is absolutely fireproof and of steel and reinforced concrete construction, with marble terazzo floor throughout, the floor construction is a reinforced concrete on floor tiling. There are six electric traction elevators. The stairs are of solid concrete and ex tend to the roof. The owners, the Merchants Bank Building Company, are confident that this building will have no equal for its size in the United States.

Below are some of the features of the Merchants Bank Bldg. : Large, commodious entrances on both Robert and 4th streets. The second and third floors are occupied by the bank itself; in the basement the two safe deposit and money vaults, of which each door weighs fifteen tons, are located and a large directors’ room for the use of the tenants of the building; cigar and news stands, public telephones and telegraph office on the main floor; wash basins with hot and cold water in every office; men’s toilet on every floor. On the sixteenth floor is the men’s general toilet with self-ventilating closets, also a large toilet room for women and a women’s restroom. There also is a barber shop on this floor.

-Vacuum cleaning system through out the building; six high speed electric traction elevators, elevator service all day and all night, including holidays; hardware specially de signed for this building; sound proof partitions, closed stairways with metal fireproof partitions; the floors of marble terazzo, corridors unusually large; plastering smooth,

with sanitary surface; walls painted with washable oil paint; doors with large glass panels. Building is specially located to secure ample north, east, south and west light.
