The Suburban Motel

Isabelle Jackson was born in St. Paul back in 1902. Her family moved to Minneapolis when she was just two years old. After she graduated fro the University of Minnesota she Married Rollin Jackson. In 1956 the couple built the Suburban Hotel just up the road in Crystal. Rollin and Isabelle operated the motel until 1960.

The little cabins were used less as motel rooms and more as low rent  efficiency apartments as the years went by.  In 1996, the Suburban Motel was featured in the film, Feeling Minnesota, starring Keanu Reeves, Cameron Diaz, Dan Aykroyd, and Courtney Love. The City of Crystal had hoped  to redevelop the site for years, but it cost too much. The movie resulted in the project being viable because the studio basically bought the place. The motel was razed shortly after Feeling Minnesota was released.
