Seven Seas

In 1923 the Minneapolis Park Board voted to purchase a prime piece of real estate for this little park on Lowry Hill. The scheme had been in the works for some time. A year earlier, Landscape architect  Phelps Wyman drew up a plan that included a pergola and a man-made cascade running  through a series of seven pools. The project was an expensive undertaking with total costs estimated to be over $100,000. The landscaping was completed in 1925 and the park that had been known as Douglas Triangle was renamed Mt. Curve Triangles. Wyman went on to become a landscape architect for the Milwaukee Park Commission.  The park hasn’t changed much over the years. The cascade and seven pools underwent repairs in 1953. To honor our old street car tycoon, Thomas Lowry, the park’s name was changed again in 1984. A new brick path, benches and fresh landscaping were completed in 1997.
